One More Listen

Something Familiar

I listen to a lot of music throughout the day—whether I'm getting ready for work, at work, mowing the yard, or out in the shop.

This morning, a song I've heard many times before caught my attention in a different way. It was Perfectly by Micah Tyler. As the chorus played, something about the words really struck a chord with me.

I give you failures, and you give me grace
All of my problems don't push you away
And somehow you love somebody like me
Don't know how you do it, but you do it perfectly, you do it perfectly

I've heard those lyrics more times than I can count, but this morning they landed differently.

As I thought about them, a few questions came to mind.

How many times have I failed?

How many times have I created problems for myself?

How many times have I fallen short?

Yet through every failure, every mistake, and every problem, there has been One who has never walked away. One who continues to love me despite all of it. Not because I deserve it, but because that's who He is.

And He doesn't just love me... He loves me perfectly.

Perfect

No one on the face of the earth is perfect. We all make mistakes, we all fail, and we all fall short. The only One who is truly perfect is God Himself.

He has never broken a promise. Not once. Throughout history, He has always been faithful, and He always will be. His character never changes, and neither does His love for us.

The amazing part is that none of us deserve what He offers. We can't earn His grace, and we certainly can't repay it. There is nothing we can bring to Him that He doesn't already own, and there is nothing about us that He doesn't already know.

He knows every success we've celebrated, every failure we've tried to hide, every thought we've had, and every burden we've carried. He also knows every success, every failure, every thought, and every burden that still lies ahead. Yet knowing all of that, He still loves us.

And that's the kind of love only a perfect God can give.
