A Good Reason to Return

We're finally getting a taste of fall weather here in Arkansas this week!

The temperature was in the 40s when we left the house this morning. I had a buddy riding along with me, and we met up with another friend at Grumpy's in Rosebud, Arkansas, for breakfast.

If you've never stopped at Grumpy's for breakfast, you're missing out on one of the best breakfasts around. And the prices are pretty reasonable, too!

After getting our fill, we headed on into Heber Springs. I seem to make this drive quite a bit, and the route we took is actually part of my regular test drive, or as I like to call it, windshield therapy route. But I never get tired of making that drive up to Heber Springs.

This is one of the few car shows I try to attend every year. Not only do I enjoy the show itself, but I also appreciate the cause they're raising money for and the family that puts it all together.

Charlie Johnson was involved with the volunteer fire department in Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas. The fire department and his family established a scholarship program benefiting the children and grandchildren of first responders. I think that's an awesome cause and one well worth supporting.

From the registration numbers I saw and heard announced during the door prize drawings, they ended up with somewhere in the neighborhood of 65 cars. Not too bad for a day that started with temperatures in the 40s and a chilly breeze blowing!

One thing that makes this show special is seeing the last car Charlie built, a beautiful blue hot rod. It's a reminder of his love for cars, just as the Tumbling Shoals rescue truck represents his years of service with the volunteer fire department.

If you've never made the trip to Heber Springs for this show, I'd encourage you to put it on your calendar for next year. It's a good show supporting a great cause.

And if you leave early enough, be sure to make a stop in Rosebud for breakfast!
