A Good Day to Take the Long Way Home

A Good Day to Take the Long Way Home

Today was a good, laid-back Saturday for me. I left the house a little later than I normally would, stopped to top off the tank in the C10, and hit the highway toward Russellville, Arkansas, for the Fuel the Music Car Show, benefiting the Pottsville High School Band and Color Guard.

Russellville is about a 50-minute drive from the house, and when I rolled into the Pope County Fairgrounds, there were already quite a few cars on the show field.

From what I could tell, they had somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 or more vehicles throughout the day. That's a pretty good turnout, especially with several other car shows taking place around Arkansas on the same Saturday.

This was my first time attending this show, and I wasn't disappointed. There were plenty of nice cars and trucks, along with a good group of people who came out to support the kids in the band and color guard.

I'm always glad to support an event that's helping our young people!

After hanging out with some friends and meeting a couple of new folks, which is something I really enjoy doing, I fired up the C10 and headed toward home on the old highway.

For some reason, I've always enjoyed taking the two-lane roads on a nice day. There's just something about slowing down a little and enjoying the drive.

I thought I might even get to meet another new friend from the Arkansas State Police when I saw his brake lights come on. But I guess he wasn't interested in meeting me after all, because he never turned around!

There's also an old gas station along this route that I've been wanting to stop at for some pictures of the C10. Today was finally the day! I love finding old places like this where I can pull over and grab a few pictures of the truck.

After snapping a few pictures, I hopped back in the C10 and finished the trip home. This route takes a little longer, but it sure makes the drive more enjoyable!

Looking back, it was just a good, laid-back Saturday. A car show supporting a great cause, some time spent with friends, a few new faces, and a relaxing drive through the Arkansas countryside.

Sometimes that's all it takes to make for a pretty good day!
