Please humor me for a moment while I put my thoughts down about a couple things. This hobby is important to me, and I am very passionate about it and hope to look forward to it for many years to come.
What is the most important part of our hobby…
For those of you that know me, you know that I am pretty involved in this hobby, from the organizations I belong to and support and hosting events, which included our Statewide Car Club Meeting, car shows, and cruise nights for many years. I have been members of car clubs and officers of those clubs. I have won awards with the cars that I attend these shows with, but I want to talk about what is the most important part of this hobby that we all love so much.
It’s not the trophies… It’s not really the cars, although I do love old cars, but they are the tool that we use to meet people. I love the people that I have gotten to know. I have friends from just about every corner of the State of Arkansas… I have friends all over this great country. Some of them I may only get to see once a year at a large event that we travel too.
So, in my opinion people are the most important part of the hobby that we all love.
What can we do to keepin our hobby alive…
So, now that we have talked about what is most important about our hobby, what are going to do to keep our hobby alive for the years and generations to come.
I have attended a lot of events, not quite as many as some, but more than others. I have traveled a lot of miles to attend some of these events. Worked many hours at events…
Why?? To support the events and this hobby that I have become so passionate about. To meet the people that I just talked about that are so important in the thing that we do.
Once thing I see that is happening, is that the attendance, the participation, and the volunteers dwindling at a steady pace. When the attendance, participation, and volunteers dwindles to the point of an event not being profitable, it either gets canceled or moved to another venue (usually canceled).
So, now you are wondering, how can I help? Its pretty easy... get invovled, support the local car clubs and the national organizations, and attend and support them and their events.
If you have never traveled to a larger event, I would highly recommend you give a try, and soon. Who know, you just may enjoy it and meet some new lifelong friends. Once you attend one of their events and enjoy, find out you can get involved to support them even more.
Now, for a little background how I am involved to support our hobby. As I have said, I have hosted car shows, cruise nights and other events. Used those events to raise money for various charities and organizations. I also volunteer in the National Street Rod Association (NSRA) Safety Program. I serve as the South Central Division Safety Chief and work in the safety lanes at multiple events each year. I also help with safety inspections at various local events that I attend.
