That’s something we’ve all said when talking about old cars and trucks.
And it’s true — they’re never really finished.

You buy a project and work on it for months, sometimes years, before it ever hits the road. And even then, there’s always something else to do. Something to improve. Something to change. Sometimes even a rebuild or two after you’ve owned it a while.

That’s just part of it.

And honestly — life isn’t much different.

Life Isn’t a Finished Project Either

Our lives are never “done.” We should always be learning, always growing — in our relationships, our faith, and in the way we handle ourselves and others.

We encourage kids to keep learning, to grow, to try new things. But somewhere along the way, a lot of us adults get stuck in our ways and stop.

I’ll be the first to admit it — I’m guilty.

We talk about growing our relationships, our faith, our integrity, our patience, and our humility. Those things don’t grow on their own. They take attention and effort.

I’m guilty there too.

What Happens When Growth Stops

If we stop learning and growing in life, we’re no different than that project sitting in the shop — or worse, pushed out into the weeds and left to rot.

Nothing breaks all at once.
It just slowly fades.

Why I Sit on the Shop Stool

This right here is why I started writing From the Shop Stool.

It makes me slow down.
It makes me listen.
It makes me learn and grow.

It forces me to read, to think, and to be honest about where I’m at and where I need to improve. And if something I write here helps even one person — and I learn something and grow a little in the process — then it’s worth every bit of the time it takes.

Because no — I’m not finished with my truck.
And I’m definitely not finished with my life.
