As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. – Proverbs 27:17

Let Me Explain

I'm not a teacher, pastor, or expert in any of this. I'm just a guy that, for some reason, has started sharing my experiences, thoughts, and sometimes other useless information, when I feel the need. Today is one of those days — but this may be useful.

Proverbs 27:17 is one of my favorite verses, not really sure why, because of the explanation above. To me it sounds more like something one of those people I mentioned above would use. But anyway, here we are.

I've mentioned before, more in passing, why I do what I do. I'm going to go into that a little deeper here. So just bear with me, and hopefully I won't jump around too much.

Where It Started

Back in January of this year, I had a thought (I know, scary) for something to write on this blog, along with a title — From The Shop Stool. I struggled with even sharing it after it was written, because that's just not who I am. I don't share a lot of things like this, especially with this many people — maybe a few close friends, but that's about it. But, here we are!

Since then, I've written more articles than what's actually posted. I have a backlog I haven't shared yet, waiting on the right time for each one.

The Why

So now, for the why!

Like I said, I don't share things like this very often. But when I really got to thinking about it — if I can help just one person, that one person who needs to hear what I typed in just one of these articles — then my time and my effort, well, it was all worth it.

Another reason: I don't read much, because I just don't find much I'm interested in. I do have a few books I've read in the past, here are a couple of my favorites:

  1. Top Fuel for Life: Life Lessons From a Crew Chief by Jim Oberhofer
  2. Geared-Up Faith – For Classic Car Buffs by Ace Collins
  3. From Rust to Redemption – A Gritty Field Manual for New Men In Christ by Mark Alan Boer

You're probably seeing a theme with these books. I know there are a lot of books out there related to cars, but there aren't many out there relating them to life, or to following Christ. Trust me, I've looked, many times.

Why These Stories Exist

I've wondered many times if there are other guys out there, like me, looking for the right book for them. Don't get me wrong here — I'm not writing a book. But I'm confident there are other men, or ladies, who have the same issue.

So, I'm taking the thoughts and experiences in my life and relating them to what I believe is part of my calling. If you wonder what that calling might be, check out the article What If It's A Calling that I wrote a couple of months ago.

I'm collecting these stories on my website, and they get shared to my personal FB page — but my hope and prayer is that someone finds them who really needs to hear or read what I typed.

So there you have it... the reason these stories exist. If you're reading this, or one of the others, and find it useful, or know someone who needs to hear it, please feel free to share — that's what they're there for.
