Backroads to Wheelin’ & Healin’

Another awesome day—hitting the road early, meeting up with some friends, and cruising the backroads to Jacksonville, Arkansas, for the 27th Annual Wheelin’ & Healin’ Car Show, hosted by the Arkansas Pontiac GMC Association.

These guys and girls work all year to get ready for this day, and they do an awesome job. They have enough club members to handle the gate, registration, cooking lunch, judging the cars, and all the other jobs that have to be taken care of to put on an event like this. A lot of car clubs don’t have that luxury, and having that many people willing to pitch in makes a difference.

As you can probably tell, I love going to car shows. I also love driving the hot rods I’ve owned over the years—especially the C10 I have now. For me, one of the best parts of going to a car show is the drive there and back. Give me some backroads, a few friends to cruise with, and somewhere to go, and I’m pretty happy.

Today was no different. There was a huge variety of cars, trucks, motorcycles—you name it, there was probably something there for you.

It looked like participation may have been down a little this year, but that seems to have been the case at quite a few shows lately. The heat wave we’ve been having here in Arkansas probably hasn’t helped. Hopefully, we’re finally getting close to some cooler weather and some good fall cruising.

All in all, it was a great day. Driving the C10, hanging out with friends while trying to stay as cool as possible in the shade, and catching up with others around the show field—it doesn’t get much better than that!

At the end of the day, that’s what this car thing is really about for me. The cars may be what bring us together, but it’s the people, the friendships, and the miles traveled along the way that make the memories.

And if I can take the backroads getting there and back, well, that just makes the day a little better.
