Some cars are more than just metal and horsepower—they’re memories, milestones, and stories on wheels. Michael and Sharon Stearns' 1971 Chevy Chevelle SS is exactly that.

This stunning Chevelle has been in the family for years. Originally owned by Michael’s cousin, Jimmy Stearns, it was a project car from the start. Jimmy and his dad bought it when Jimmy was just 16. Together, they restored it more than once, even turning it into a purple-painted race car at one point.

But after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, Jimmy decided it was time to bring the Chevelle back to its roots. He wanted a cruiser—something clean, classic, and comfortable to enjoy. With the help of friends and family, the car was nearly finished when Jimmy passed away, just weeks before completion.

Before he died, Jimmy told his wife that he wanted Michael and his boys to have the car, knowing they’d carry on the vision and finish what he started.

In 2017, Jimmy’s wife made the call—she was ready to hear the Chevelle roar to life. Michael, along with his dad, uncles, and sons, brought the car home and set to work finishing it in Jimmy’s honor.

Michael admits he was hesitant to drive it at first. “I was scared something would happen to it,” he says. But Uncle Harvey kept pushing him to enjoy the ride. By 2021, he finally gave in—and hasn’t looked back since.

Now, the car cruises regularly and turns heads at car shows. It’s not just a winner on the show field—it’s a rolling tribute to family, legacy, and love for the road. Michael says his biggest hope is that Jimmy would be proud to see the Chevelle out where it belongs: admired, appreciated, and still Kruzn.
