Mustang Project
In December of 2003 I finally found a Mustang to buy. I had been wanting one for quite some time. Good solid Mustangs are hard to come by. I had looked at Mustangs on eBay, and other websites and nothing. Finally one Sunday, I was looking through the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, and there was a 1966 Ford Mustang for sale in Cabot, AR. Cabot is about a 45 minute drive from Conway. I was off work one day, so I thought I would go take a look at this one.
This car was very solid car. I wasn't crazy about the black vinyl top, but figured I could live it for a while. The next day, my wife and drove to Cabot to pick up the car. I finally had a Mustang.
I didn't do to much to the car over the next year. But, during the 2004 summer, I decided it was time to paint the car and get rid of the vinyl top. Michael Hill did all the paint and body work on the car. Removing the vinyl top exposed some damage that I didn't know existed, but in the long run would be worth it.There was quite a bit of rust under the vinyl top. But I had my heart set on not putting one back on. So Michael to the time to fix it.
I knew in the long run it would be worth it.
He also spent alot of time just fixing the little door dings and what looked like some hail damage to the top surfaces. It was well worth the time and money put into it.
I had decided to put the car back to the original color using base coat/clear coat. It was the right decision, the paint turned out awesome. It was some of the deepest looking paint that I had seen in quite a while.

After this, I showed it some in local car shows, and it was winning 2nd and 3rd place just about every place I took it. The following winter, I decided it was time to pull the engine and tranny and rebuild them and clean up the engine compartment. So I pulled the engine and completely disassembled it. All the machine shop work was done by Case Automotive. He also assembled the short block for me. The C4 tranny was rebuilt by TransTech. The engine is a 302-2v that was pulled from a '68 Ford Galaxie. The C4 tranny is original to the car.
I then decided in the winter of 2006 to put new tires on it. I really like the thought of dual red line tires for this Mustang. Although it probably didn't come with them originally, I decided it would be a good look for this one.
That was the last modification I made to the car. I sold it on November 29, 2007 to a guy in Overland Park, KS. He pretty much bought the car sight unseen. His father-in-law picked up the car him and drove it back to Carthage where he picked it up.
This was a fun car to work on, but it was very fun to drive. I really enjoyed this car during the 4 years I owned, and wish the new owner as much enjoyment as I got out of it... Now on to the next project....
